What's New!

Mrs. Maher's kindergarten class has enjoyed their STEM activities from the Zero Waste Challenge from Project Lead the Way!  First they drew what was on their trays and then graphed their Lunch inventory categorized by produce, main meal and drink. Next they ate and redrew what was left, then regraphed the remainders. Finally, they sorted their waste into piles, paper, plastic and food. The children were surprised at the amount and then talked about solutions and reusing different pieces. It was a very effective lesson. They are recycling some of their waste into the classroom and building a community in the block area for play! They are so excited!

STEM is happening at Abner Gibbs!  Grades 4 students had the privilege of taking part in STEM week at Westfield State University.  Students in grade 4 participated in a variety of STEM activities taught by professors at Westfield State University.  They also met and were inspired by Lt. Governor Karen Polito.

Mrs.Lewis STEM 3

Mrs. Lewis had her own STEM taking place in 2nd grade with students being asked to construct a tower using paper and dots.  She kicked the activity off with reading the book "The Dot" written by Peter H. Reynolds.  Students were excited to collaborate with one another and build their tallest tower.
